Yes, we are talking about a retired MARCO, a fearless son of Uttarakhand, and a valiant soldier of the Indian Navy—Dhanveer Singh Negi, a retired MARCOS commando who saved an 18-year-old boy from drowning in Indirapuram’s hidden canal on July 15, 2024.
Jumped, Risked His Life
After retirement, D.S. Negi was leading a life much like any ordinary person, but what happened on July 15, 2024, that awakened the fearless commando in him? It was around 4-5 in the afternoon when he was passing by the hidden canal of Indirapuram. A crowd of people caught his eye, and he couldn’t resist walking toward the throng, which was screaming and making videos of a helpless boy from a distance, yet not a single person was trying to help. The scene compelled him to act. Without a second thought for his own safety, he jumped straight into the canal. Despite suffering many bruises, he managed to pull the boy out, pump water from his stomach, administer CPR, and ultimately save his life.
For the Sake of “Humane”

This wise thought of Mahatma Gandhi came to life when the entire crowd witnessed the heroic act of D.S. Negi saving a life. Many who saw him helping the boy assumed he must be a relative, but they were astonished when they learned that this act of kindness was entirely selfless—Negi didn’t even know the boy’s name.
Negi said, “I neither knew him nor wanted to; I saw that boy drowning and took it as my responsibility to save him. Although many people were already standing there, I thought they couldn’t swim.”
Out of the many people making videos, one person curiously came forward to ask about his identity. Initially, Negi wasn’t ready to disclose it, but after some persuasion, he revealed that he is an ex-MARCOS commando. Fortunately, the clip went viral, and the news spread like wildfire.
